Visual Arts / Penong

Born in California, I was drawn to coastal Australia in 1983. My environment is the muse for my creative practices. Collecting & observing in nature inspires much of my work as does the wild west coast of South Australia.

Born in California, I was drawn to coastal Australia in 1983. My environment is the muse for my creative practices. Collecting & observing in nature inspires much of my work as does the wild west coast of South Australia.

Our property is far from the electricity grid. We use solar & wind power with rain water our only water source. My studio & home is completely run with this system.

Full time arts practice started in 1986.
Self taught with skills developed though short courses & long hours in my studio.
Glass practice includes kiln forming, casting, lamp working & pate de verre.
Other mediums include precious metal jeweller, mixed metals & vitreous enamel on metal.
Work ranges from jewellery sized objects through to installations.
Recently I am developing techniques using screen printing with glass for texture.
My work is in collections world wide including Buckingham Palace.

I have;
– won the Breaking Ground Award in 2015 which culminated in my solo exhibition ‘Layers’ at Adelaide Festival Centre in July-August 2016.
taught workshops Australia wide, been a mentor, & have been mentored.
exhibited widely throughout Australia, been a grant assessment panel member, sat on international Guild panels.
supported the arts through working with children & public speaking.
– been a maker since childhood.

As a multimedia designer/artist/maker/teacher, I find inspiration in the rugged beauty surrounding my coastal home. Patterns, colours, textures; the fine lace like markings on coral or an urchin, shadows playing across the ground, or intricate seaweed washed up on a remote beach are examples of details that continue to intrigue and fascinate her.

Currently I work in media including glass, vitreous enamel on metal, precious & non-precious metals, mixed media jewellery, and more recently paper & fabric. I enjoy working with small scale jewellery through to large installations. Glass techniques include kiln-forming, pate de verre, lamp-working, and screen printing just to name a few. I am a passionate maker that enjoys exploring new ideas, media, and techniques to see what can happen. I have dedicated my life to being an artist/craftsperson, developing my skills and I also enjoy teaching to share my skills. I have an inquisitive mind, so anything is possible.
