Zawadi Rashidi

Dance / Mount Gambier

Zawadi loves to dance and is passionate about bridging the gap between her African community and the wider community of Mount Gambier and beyond.

Meet Zawadi Rashidi a 23 year old Congolese dance maker who lives in Mount Gambier. Her friends call her Zawa and she is the choreographer of a small dance group of teenagers from the African community teaching mostly Traditional African dancing and African Hip Hop. She hopes to help make her African community be more connected with the wider community of Mount Gambier.

Zawa is a member of the Art Squad and through her experience hopes to create a dance, music and video experience that will tell her story as a one-year old refugee from Congo and her experience of travelling to and living in Australia, she says “Using my story will hopefully open up conversations about different communities within regional South Australia and connect young people through the program.”
