Common Ground

30th September 2018 — 30th October 2018

Creating a stronger Barossa economy through artistic excellence, innovation and collaboration

Common Ground is a research and development partnership between artists and a local business in the Barossa region, which will strengthen the arts and cultural sector whilst improving brand and consumer value opportunities for local business.

It identifies the artistic and economic benefits derived from placing arts practitioners with a local business setting through an artist in residency program. The Common Ground residency for 2018 is a collaborative effort of artist James Tylor photographer and Indigenous food historian (, El Estanco Café in Greenock ( and the Mount Pleasant Men’s Shed Inc (

The residency program will be highlighting the knowledge and implementation of an Indigenous food garden that can be utilised in the Café menus. El Estanco Café in Greenock, artist James Tylor and Mount Pleasant Men’s Shed Inc together will create and engage in the local community in sharing food and knowledge to create new engaging and diverse works for us all to share.

Country Arts SA and Regional Development Australia Barossa are excited to be supporting this project and develop new relationships through collaborating the arts, business and community.

This residency recognises overlap between artistic practice and cultural heritage within Indigenous culture. It acknowledges that traditions surrounding food, language, art and culture overlap, and will allow James to develop his own artistic practice by connecting with and developing his broader cultural identity.

Common Ground is an Art Music Design Barossa initiative. A full program of each residency is available at
